Residents will be asking where the new Green-Liberal Democrat led council intend to put housing after Wealden District Council's Full Council on 24th May 2023.
The Deputy Leader of the Council (Cllr Millward, Green) had said that she did not favour building on greenfield sites during the election campaign where housebuilding featured highly.
However, Cllr Lunn (Con) put the question to Cllr Tysh (Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development) during the Full Council that, given Wealden has only 98 brownfield sites (able to house 98 homes in total), where did the council intend to put all the homes that the Green Party had promised nationally?
This question clearly irritated Cllr Tysh who said that the Deputy Leader of the Council did not say she would stop housebuilding on greenfield.
This will come as a shock to some readers, given the emphasis the Green Party had placed on protecting greenfield land.
