A petition has been launched, following news that Barclays Bank in Heathfield will soon close its doors.
The petition states:
"High streets are a crucial part of our local communities, often forming the backbone of local economies.
It is crucial that Barclays Bank in Heathfield does not close - given the important role it plays in supporting older people locally but also those with access issues and those without access to the internet.
We would therefore ask Barclays Bank to think again on their decision to close the local branch."
Cllr Tom Guyton-Day, the Conservative District Councillor for Heathfield South, who launched the petition said: "it's important that everyone is able to access banking services hence launching the petition. A great many people in Heathfield rely on in person banking. I hope Barclays Bank are able to reconsider their decision.
Part of my role as a District Councillor is to represent the concerns of my residents - and this is a concern they raised with me, so I thought it a good first step to start a petition. I would encourage everyone to sign the petition."
